Morigaon: Soon after taking charge as the Guardian Minister of Morigaon district, Minister Ajanta Neog on Thursday outlined a development roadmap for the district while attending her first review meeting with the district administration (Morigaon Medical College).

Ajanta Neog, Minister for Women and Child Development and Tourism, and Guardian Minister of Morigaon district, reviewed the functioning of various departments during a District Development Committee meeting held in the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office.

During the meeting, she reviewed the progress of several departments and instructed officials to ensure that contractors do not compromise on the quality of work. She directed engineers of different departments to regularly inspect ongoing projects, monitor quality standards, and expedite the completion of projects sanctioned during the 2024–25 financial year. She also advised officials to select suitable land for projects wherever possible so that work can begin on time.

Neog instructed the Public Works Department (Building) to accelerate construction work and ensure that the Morigaon Medical College is completed by March next year. She also directed the Public Works Department (Roads) to make as many roads in the district as possible motorable. Roads sanctioned between 2022–23 and 2024–25 are to be completed by December this year so that work on new roads can commence. She further directed the Executive Engineer to prepare a detailed report on roads yet to be constructed and roads already made motorable in each constituency and submit it to the MLAs within a week.

Reviewing the activities of the Water Resources Department, the minister said that the public should not face any inconvenience due to unnecessary delays in work arising from minor issues. She said elected representatives should personally visit development blocks to raise public awareness about every government scheme. Stressing the timely completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), she suggested that Zilla Parishad members and public representatives should visit development blocks in their respective constituencies at least once a month to inform people about various government schemes.

Highlighting the district’s significant potential for fish production through government initiatives, she directed the Fisheries Department to undertake large-scale planning in the sector.

Reviewing the Women and Child Development Department, Neog instructed officials to conduct awareness campaigns under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme in collaboration with the Education Department.

To enhance the revenue of the Morigaon Municipal Board, she offered several suggestions, including maintaining cleanliness in Morigaon town, which serves as a mirror of the entire district, introducing a nominal monthly user fee for waste collection, and implementing revenue-generating projects to address the financial problems the Morigaon Municipal Board is suffering from. She directed all departments to work in coordination to establish Morigaon as one of the leading districts in the state. She assured that, as Guardian Minister, she would put in “100 percent effort” toward the district’s development.
