Nagaon : The District Tobacco Control Cell, Nagaon conducted a mass enforcement drive under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, shortly known as COTPA and the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 in various areas including the D.C. Office campus, Nagaon, Court campus, Office of the Inspector of Schools campus, Nagaon, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, Nagaon University, Modern High School, Dhing Gate, Nagaon, and Health Planet Hospital, Nagaon.
The drive was carried out in the presence of Praveen Kumar Mahato, Assistant Commissioner, Nagaon; Anirban Borthakur, District Programme Manager, National Health Mission, Nagaon; Dr. Smitakshi Phukan, District Nodal Officer, District Tobacco Control Cell, Nagaon; Partha Pratim Senapati, District Tobacco Control Cell, Nagaon; Dipumoni Medhi, MPW, Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Nagaon; Sub-Inspector, Sadar; and Mahadev Nath and Bidyut Jyoti Baruah from the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Nagaon. During the drive, a total fine of Rs. 2,150 was collected from 11 violators under COTPA 2003.
