Nagaon Jail Death Mystery: Two Prisoners Die on Same Night, Inquiry Ordered Mystery Deepens After Two Inmates Die Suddenly in Nagaon Jail; Probe Ordered by DC Devashish Sharma

Nagaon: A shocking incident has taken place inside Nagaon jail, creating widespread sensation after two inmates died suddenly on the same night. The District Commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the matter (Nagaon Jail Death Mystery).

The deaths of two prisoners lodged in Nagaon Central Jail and the Special Jail have triggered strong reactions across Nagaon.

One of the deceased has been identified as Jitumoni Konwar of Raha in Nagaon district. A resident of Raja Gaon in Raha and son of the late Kanatrapa Konwar, he had been in custody since December 24, 2025, in connection with Raha Police Station Case No. 173/2025 under Sections 296/117(2)/109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He reportedly died at around 6:30 a.m. today.

The other deceased inmate has been identified as Rupching Dera from East Udali under Lanka in Hojai district. He was the son of the late Harachching Timung and had been in custody since March 25, 2026, in connection with Lanka Police Station Case No. 49/2026 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was taken to the hospital today, where doctors declared him dead.

The bodies of both inmates have been sent to Nagaon Medical College for post-mortem examinations.

Notably, the sudden deaths of the two prisoners — one in Nagaon Central Jail and the other in the Special Jail — inside the jail have raised serious concerns. Authorities have not yet clarified whether the deaths were due to illness or if any other factors were involved. Upon being informed of the incident, Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma directed the Assistant Commissioner to conduct an investigation into the matter.
