Nagaon: Stage Bihu programmes are being held across various parts of Nagaon district and the rest of the state on the third day of the Assamese New Year. On this occasion, Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma urged Bihu committees to dedicate at least one day of their programmes to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, as this year marks the centenary of Sudhakantha’s birth (Bhupen Hazarika Tribute Bihu).

In a public appeal, the DC called on committees to discuss the life and works of the Bharat Ratna awardee and to perform his iconic compositions. All circle officers have been directed to coordinate with local Bihu committees in this regard.

The 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Hazarika began on September 8 last year and will conclude on September 8 this year, said District Information and Public Relations Officer Bikash Sharma.

The Cultural Department of the Government of Assam has also called upon every Bihu stage across the state to hold at least one programme in his honour, as a tribute to his outstanding contribution to Assamese culture and society.
