Nagaon: Amid the festive spirit of Rongali Bihu across Assam, another piece of good news has emerged from Puranigudam in Nagaon. The historic Puranigudam Bihu dance has set a new record by securing a place in the India Book of Records. The achievement came through a grand Bihu dance event organized by Puranigudam Natyam – The Green Theatre Natyam Cultural Group at Bapuji Playground, where around 1,500 drummers (dhuliyas) and bihu dancers participated together to set the record (Bihu Dance Record Assam).

After nearly one and a half months of training, the large-scale dhol performance and Bihu dance program was held on Thursday, the day of Gosai Bihu. More than 1,500 trained drummers and dancers from the region took part in the event. The synchronized performance deeply impressed the representative of the India Book of Records.

The representative personally attended the event and presented the official certificate of recognition to the organizers, Puranigudam Natyam – The Green Theatre Natyam Cultural Group. Nagaon District Commissioner Devasish Sharma was also present at the record-setting event.

Along with local young women dancers, many children also participated in the Bihu performance, contributing to the record achievement. The historic accomplishment has brought great joy and pride to the people of Nagaon, as well as to all the dancers who took part in the performance.

Notably, over the past 40 days, the cultural group arranged structured training for the dancers by dividing them into several groups, guided by around 40 instructors.
