Nagaon: Nagaon District Commissioner and District Magistrate Devashish Sharma has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident in which an alleged dacoit named Khairul Ali was killed during an encounter between police and dacoits (Nagaon Police Encounter) at Barkandali Mikirpara village under Rangalu Police Outpost on the night of May 25.

According to an official order issued by the District Magistrate, the Nagaon Police launched an operation against suspected dacoits in the Barkandali Mikirpara area based on confidential inputs. During the operation, the group of dacoits allegedly opened fire at the police team, prompting the police to retaliate. As a result, Khairul Ali sustained bullet injuries.

Khairul Ali was immediately rushed to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased hailed from Chinatoli in Ward No. 8 of Lakhimpur.

The order further stated that Additional District Magistrate Kamaljit Sharma has been assigned to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident at Barkandali Mikirpara. The ADM has been directed to carry out an impartial investigation into the police firing incident and submit the inquiry report within 15 days.

The District Commissioner has also appealed to all concerned parties to cooperate with the investigation.

It is worth mentioning that Khairul Ali, who was killed in police firing, was the mastermind behind the dacoity incident that took place at the residence of Dr. Ranjit Saikia in Marikalong, Nagaon town, during the wee hours of April 24. This was disclosed to the media by the Senior Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district.
