Nagaon: Nagaon Police have made significant progress in investigating the shocking robbery incident in Nagaon. Within just two days, the police achieved success by arresting two notorious robbers (Nagaon Doctor Robbery Case).
The two accused belong to the gang that brutally attacked and looted the residence of a doctor’s family at Morikolong in Nagaon. Based on a case registered at Nagaon Sadar Police Station (Case No. 292/2026) under Sections 310(2), 311, and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the police arrested the two notorious robbers on Saturday night.
In the early hours of April 24, a five-member gang carried out the robbery at the residence of Dr. Ranjit Saikia in Morikolong, Nagaon town. Acting on the case, Nagaon Police launched operations and succeeded in arresting two members of the gang. The arrested individuals have been identified as Omar Faruk of Barghuli in Samaguri and Mintu Hussain from near the railway line at Chinapatti in Nagaon town.
Soon after the incident, Nagaon Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das became actively involved in the investigation. On the morning of April 24, he personally visited the doctor’s residence along with Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Abutani Doley and initiated the investigation.
Within 24 hours of the incident, the police detained Omar Faruk and Mintu Hussain and began intensive interrogation. During marathon questioning, police obtained several important details linking the two to the crime, following which both were formally arrested.
Both Omar Faruk and Mintu Hussain had prior cases of robbery against them. Police recovered a portion of the cash looted from the doctor’s residence from their possession, along with some materials used in the robbery.
Operations are continuing to arrest the remaining three accused involved in the robbery.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ranjit Saikia, who was injured in the attack, along with his wife Ruprekha Bhuyan Saikia, are undergoing treatment in Guwahati. However, it has been reported that Ruprekha Bhuyan Saikia’s condition remains critical.
