Nagaon : A fiery political exchange marked the campaign trail in Assam as Asaduddin Owaisi launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of intimidation politics and divisive rhetoric (Owaisi Assam Campaign).
Addressing a series of massive rallies across Dhing, Rupahihat, Samaguri, and Binakandi on Thursday, the AIMIM chief campaigned extensively in support of AIUDF candidates, drawing large crowds and intensifying the electoral atmosphere ahead of the Assembly polls.
At a key public meeting in Udmari playground under Rupahihat constituency, Owaisi responded strongly to alleged remarks by the Chief Minister about “breaking Miya’s backbone.” In a bold statement, he declared, “Himanta may try to scare the Miya community, but we are not afraid. Even if he wants to take our lives, we are ready to take bullets.”
Campaigning for AIUDF candidates including Aminul Islam and Abdul Aziz in Rupahihat and Samaguri, and Matiur Rahman in Dhing, Owaisi positioned himself as a vocal defender of minority rights. He emphasized that fear would not dictate the political choices of the community, asserting, “Muslims fear only Allah.”
Taking aim at both BJP and Congress, Owaisi criticized past governments led by Tarun Gogoi, accusing them of enabling policies like detention camps and the rise in ‘D-voters’. He also targeted Congress Rakibul Hussain, questioning his role during critical parliamentary moments, and sarcastically remarked that voters would “play carrom with him” on polling day.
Owaisi further alleged that the BJP government had rendered over 50,000 families homeless through eviction drives, while accusing Congress of remaining silent on the issue. He urged minority voters to rally behind AIUDF as a strong alternative.
After addressing the Rupahihat rally, Owaisi proceeded to campaign in Binakandi in support of Badruddin Ajmal, reinforcing his appeal for consolidation of minority votes.
The charged rhetoric and high-voltage campaigning underscore the intensifying battle for Assam’s political landscape as parties make their final push ahead of the crucial polls.
