Assam Jamiat Ulema Statement Against False Propaganda Ahead of Assam ElectionsAssam Jamiat Ulema Statement Against False Propaganda Ahead of Assam Elections

Safiqur Rahman, Nagaon : At a critical juncture ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the Assam State unit of Jamiat Ulema, under the leadership of Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, has strongly refuted what it described as “false, misleading, and malicious propaganda” circulating on social media regarding its organizational structure and leadership (Assam Jamiat Ulema Statement).

Addressing a well-attended press conference at the organisation’s state headquarter Madani Hall in Haiborgaon, Nagaon thisafternoon, State General Secretary Maulana Abdur Rashid Qasimi expressed deep concern over the use of “abusive, indecent, and provocative language” by certain leaders and workers of a political party(AIUDF)during campaign activities in the Binnakandi Assembly constituency of Hojai district.

He stated that such conduct undermines democratic values and creates unnecessary tension in an already sensitive electoral environment. “We urge all political stakeholders to exercise restraint and uphold the dignity of public discourse,” he said.

The organisation categorically dismissed allegations branding the Assam State Jamiat as “fake,” clarifying that it is a constitutionally recognized, mainstream, and non-political body functioning under the central leadership of Maulana Syed Arshad Madani. It also termed as “baseless and ill-intentioned” claims that Maulana Badruddin Ajmal was removed from the post of state president by any unauthorized individual.

Providing historical clarification, Qasimi stated that Ajmal’s removal was carried out in accordance with a resolution adopted by the Central Working Committee of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind during a meeting held in New Delhi on February 8, 2011. The decision, he said, was based on the incompatibility of simultaneously holding leadership roles in both a religious organisation and a political party.

Highlighting its ongoing contributions, the organisation asserted that under the guidance of Maulana Syed Arshad Madani and the current state leadership, Jamiat in Assam has been actively working for the welfare of marginalized communities across caste, creed, and religion, particularly in legal and social spheres.

On the electoral front, the organisation appealed to the people of Assam to ensure a peaceful and fair election on April 9. Acting on directives from its central leadership, the Assam State Jamiat called upon voters to support secular and democratic forces to counter divisive elements and strengthen unity, harmony, and constitutional values.
The organisation also rejected claims that it has not taken legal initiatives for minority welfare. Its legal representatives presented documented evidence of multiple cases filed in the Supreme Court and other courts in support of minority rights.

Reiterating its consistent stand, Jamiat leaders noted that the organisation has historically supported secular political formations in the interest of minority welfare. They cited its open backing of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the recent Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) council elections as an example.

Concluding the press conference, the leaders appealed to voters across Assam to rise above divisions of caste, religion, and ethnicity, and to vote in favour of peace, progress, and inclusive development in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
