Himanta Biswa Sarma Links Singapore Verdict to Alleged Conspiracy in Zubeen Garg Death Case "Amritprabha Mahanta Had Been Making Zubeen Garg Consume Alcohol Since Night": Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma

Nagaon: At a time when Singapore’s Coroner’s Court today ruled that Zubeen Garg’s death was due to accidental drowning, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma made a significant statement on the matter in Nagaon (Zubeen Garg Death Case).

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Sarma said, “Amritprabha Mahanta had been making Zubeen Garg consume alcohol since the night. There is no difference between the Singapore court’s verdict and our chargesheet. The Assam government had also stated that he had consumed alcohol, but that he had been made to drink. Therefore, I believe the Singapore court’s verdict will further strengthen our case. The Singapore court mentioned that 380 ml of alcohol was found. We also said the same. The Singapore court stated that he had been drinking since that night. We also said he had been made to drink since the night. However, we have said that he was deliberately and intentionally made to consume alcohol.”

He further added that the Assam Police could do even better work than Singapore. “Some people had said the Assam Police should have gone to Singapore. If we had gone to Singapore, what would have happened to us? Today’s verdict has proven that we were doing the right thing. They also said he had been drinking since the night. We too said Amritprabha had made him drink from the night on the basis of a conspiracy. Therefore, the people of Assam will understand how systematically we worked, staying away from politics. Had we gone to Singapore, we would never have been able to do it that way. Akhil, Lurinjyoti and Dulu Ahmed had criticized us a lot, asking why the Assam Police did not go to Singapore. But we knew the bank account was here, so the conspiracy was also here. What would the Assam Police have achieved by going to Singapore? Today, the Singapore court’s verdict has proven how appropriate it was not to go.”

He also stated that after the elections, he would himself discuss the chargesheet related to Zubeen Garg’s death.
