Nagaon: A wave of strong protest and condemnation has swept across Nagaon’s media fraternity following a shocking attack on the office of Asomiya Pratidin newspaper in Lakhimpur on the night of April 9. Unknown miscreants reportedly vandalized the office, causing significant damage and raising serious concerns about press freedom and security (Media Office Attack).
The Nagaon Print Media Association, in an official statement, strongly denounced the incident, calling it a direct assault on the very foundation of democracy. The association emphasized that the attack was not merely on a newspaper office but on the entire media community and the fundamental right to freedom of expression.
“This kind of act is an attack on the democratic values of India and undermines the constitutional right to free speech,” the statement read. The association has demanded that the government take the strictest possible action against those involved and ensure justice without delay.
Further intensifying the protest, several prominent organizations including the Nagaon Press Club, AAJU Nagaon District Committee, and the Bartazibi Sangha of Nagaon District have also strongly condemned the incident. In separate statements, they urged the authorities to immediately identify, arrest, and punish the culprits.
They also stressed the urgent need to ensure the safety and security of journalists and media institutions, warning that such incidents pose a grave threat to the independence of the press and the democratic fabric of the nation.
The incident has triggered widespread concern, with calls growing louder for swift and decisive action to safeguard the voice of the media.
