On one hand, the public is being offered schemes worth Rs.1,250 as incentives, while on the other, ministers and MLAs are accumulating assets worth crores. This appears to be the present reality. In simple terms, it is like giving with a spoon and taking away with a shovel. During the last five-year tenure of the state government, the assets of one of its MLAs increased by Rs.7,20,14,409. Though surprising, this is true.

Notably, during the 2021 Assembly elections, according to the asset details submitted along with his nomination papers, Jitu Goswami’s total assets were Rs.14,99,68,329. However, by 2026, his assets rose to Rs.22,19,82,738.

In 2021, his movable assets were valued at Rs.2,60,94,364, while his wife’s movable assets were Rs.2,21,65,519. By 2026, his movable assets increased to Rs.2,84,10,490, and his wife’s movable assets rose to Rs.2,82,83,557. Their child’s movable assets are reported at Rs.21,88,687.

On the other hand, in 2021, his immovable assets were valued at Rs.8,90,00,000, while his wife’s immovable assets were Rs.1,26,50,000 — making a combined total of Rs.10,16,50,000.

By 2026, his immovable assets increased to Rs.12,49,50,000, while his wife’s immovable assets rose to Rs.3,61,50,000. Additionally, immovable property worth Rs.20,00,000 is registered in their child’s name. Moreover, after becoming an MLA, Jitu Goswami purchased 3.35 acres of land in village Sikri, Sector 149, Faridabad, Haryana, in his wife’s name.

It is also noteworthy that in the asset details submitted during the 2021 Assembly elections, he declared that his wife owned 8 bighas, 4 kathas, and 12 lechas of land under Dag No. 347/709 and Patta No. 105 in Chamaguri. However, this same land was not reflected in the asset list submitted along with his nomination papers in 2026.

Importantly, three criminal cases are currently registered against MLA Jitu Goswami. Case No. 3/13 is registered in the CBI Special Court in Guwahati. Another case (No. 11/09) is also registered in the CBI Special Court, and a third case (No. 9/18) is pending before the ED Special Judge. Notably, all three cases involve allegations of fraud against him, and charges have been filed under Sections 120(B), 420, 467, and 471.

However, it is important to note that he has not yet been convicted in any of these cases.
