Congress Faces Embarrassment in Dhubri Sadar Assembly Seat Over Three Self-Styled CandidatesThree 'self styled candidates' makes a mockery of the Congress in Dhubri ahead of assembly election

Guwahati: Bitter rivalry between the Congress ticket aspirants in Dhubri Sadar assembly seat is likely to cost the opposition party in one of its stronghold, Dhubri (Dhubri Sadar Assembly Seat). While the Congress is yet to make its candidates list public for Dhubri and other assembly seats across the state, a few ticket aspirants have made a mockery of the opposition party in the Dhubri assembly seats recently.

It may be mentioned here that the Congress had won the Dhubri Sadar assembly seat since 1952 till 1991 when the party lost the seat to BJP. Although Congress’ Nazibul Umar snatched the seat again in 1996 and in 2001, the party has to lose the seat the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

“Dhubri had been a Congress stronghold since beginning. However, today the Congress is out of power here because of selection of wrong candidates and lack of proper direction by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC),” said a senior grassroots workers of the party.

It may be mentioned here that although the party is yet to decide a candidate from Dhubri seat for the forthcoming elections, three ticket aspirants namely Baby Begum, Mahmudul Hussain and Abedur Zaman have been beating their own drums as the candidates of the party, leading to much embarassment to the party.

It may be mentioned here that a member of the Zila Parishad, Baby Begum was alleged to have been involved in several corruptions in Zila Parishad. Similarly, Abedur Zaman is a candidate whose security deposit was forfeited when he had unsuccessly contented the elections last time in 2016 in Dhubri seat.

“These three candidates Baby Begum, Mahmudul Hussain and Abedur Zaman have resorted to hooliganism trying to bribe the party leaderships who have been visiting Dhubri to get a real feedback. They don’t allow the APCC and AICC leaders to go to the grassroots people,” said a Congress leader on condition of anonymity.
