Nagaon : Senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday intensified the party’s campaign in Assam, addressing a massive election rally in support of Congress and opposition alliance candidate Dr. Durlav Chamua in the (Bhupesh Baghel Campaign Assam).
Nagaon–Batadroba constituency.
Speaking at a well-attended public meeting at Madhya Shialmari, Baghel launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led government and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He alleged that while the per capita income of the common people in Assam has declined, the wealth of ministers and MLAs under the current regime has significantly increased.
“Falling per capita income is a matter of serious concern. While the people are struggling, those in power are accumulating more assets,” Baghel remarked, adding that if the Congress comes to power, such matters would be thoroughly investigated.
Highlighting the party’s vision, Baghel spoke about the Congress’ “five guarantees,” promising a range of welfare schemes aimed at women, youth, and other sections of society. He also took a swipe at the BJP, alleging that “syndicate raj” is prevalent across sectors in the state.
In a notable statement, Baghel praised renowned Assamese artist Zubeen Garg, calling him “a great artist,” and assured that justice would be delivered to him within 100 days if Congress forms the government.
Addressing the gathering, Congress candidate Dr. Durlav Chamua expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, asserting that Congress remains a powerful force and that Assam will witness a change in leadership this time.
The rally, organized by the Morangial Block Congress Committee, saw the participation of thousands of supporters, reflecting growing political momentum in the constituency ahead of the elections.
