Lucknow: An IndiGo Airlines flight travelling from Delhi to Bagdogra in West Bengal was forced to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Sunday morning after authorities received a bomb threat, police officials confirmed.
The aircraft, operating as IndiGo flight 6E-6650, was carrying 222 passengers, including eight infants, along with two pilots and five cabin crew members. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated after the landing, officials said.
According to police, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) received information about the bomb threat at around 8:46 am. Following standard security procedures, the flight was diverted to Lucknow and landed safely at 9:17 am. A statement issued by the Lucknow Police Commissionerate said that immediately after landing, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay.
Bomb disposal squads, airport security, and other intelligence agencies launched a comprehensive search operation on the aircraft. Security checks were conducted as per aviation safety protocols.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Verma said that during initial inspection, a handwritten note on a tissue paper carrying the message “Plane mein bomb” (bomb in the plane) was discovered inside the aircraft’s lavatory.
Crew members promptly alerted the pilot, who then contacted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and sought permission from Lucknow ATC for an emergency landing.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source and authenticity of the threat. Necessary legal action will be taken once the inquiry is completed. Authorities also confirmed that the overall law and order situation in Lucknow remains normal and under control.
