Sonapur: An untoward incident that took place on Sunday afternoon at Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur created a tense atmosphere across the entire area. Three youths, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and attacked on-duty police personnel, are currently spending their days in police custody.
Drunken Misconduct at Zubeen Kshetra
According to details of the incident, at around 4:30 PM on Sunday, three youths arrived at Zubeen Kshetra after consuming alcohol and suddenly created chaos in a public place. By obstructing the movement of vehicles on the road, the accused caused severe inconvenience to commuters and local residents.
When a team of on-duty police personnel moved in to bring the situation under control, the youths reportedly turned more aggressive. They not only physically assaulted police personnel but are also facing serious allegations of misbehaving with a woman police officer. During the attack, one of the intoxicated youths bit a police constable on the hand, leaving him injured.
Identity of the Accused
In connection with the incident, the police have already arrested the three youths. The arrested individuals have been identified as Alam Ali of South Salmara, Mukut Das of Sualkuchi, and Ranjan Das. According to Sonapur Police Station officials, legal action has been initiated against them on charges of obstructing government duty and assaulting police personnel.
Authorities’ Statement and Investigation
The Officer-in-Charge of Sonapur Police Station has taken a firm stance on the matter, stating, “The attack on police personnel has been taken very seriously. The intoxicated youths not only assaulted on-duty police officers but also misbehaved with a woman police officer. We have already registered a case against them and sent them to jail.”
Meanwhile, the police personnel who were victims of the assault described the situation at the time, stating that the youths had deliberately targeted them during the attack. The police are continuing further investigation into the incident.
