Barpeta: A daylight armed robbery at the elite jewellery showroom “Senco Gold & Diamonds,” located on the busy commercial hub of Durgabari Road in Barpeta Road, has created widespread panic across the area (Senco Gold Barpeta Road). The incident took place barely 200 metres from the Barpeta Road Police Station, where a five-member armed gang allegedly looted property worth crores of rupees.

According to eyewitness employees, the robbers entered the store wearing masks and helmets and were carrying a total of six pistols. Upon entering, the gang threatened the staff with death and quickly took control of the situation. They first held the gatekeeper at gunpoint and forced him inside, then ordered all employees to gather in one place. One employee reportedly attempted to escape out of fear but was threatened with being shot.

Store manager Dimple Talukdar stated that the robbers tied the hands and legs of all staff members with ropes and sealed their mouths with cello tape to prevent them from raising an alarm. The manager and other employees were also physically assaulted.

The gang reportedly spoke in Hindi and questioned the manager about his identity before attacking him. The robbers were dressed differently—one was wearing green pyjamas and glasses, another was in jeans and a shirt, while two others wore helmets to conceal their identities. The gang looted gold, silver, and diamond jewellery from the showroom along with cash.

Although the exact value of the stolen property has not yet been confirmed, manager Dimple Talukdar estimated the loss to exceed Rs.12 crore. The robbers took Rs.1,25,000 in cash along with all the jewellery and diamonds in the store. They also took the wallets and mobile phones of the employees but abandoned the phones while fleeing.

The gang smashed the CCTV cameras inside the showroom and took away the hard disk containing the recorded footage to avoid leaving any clues for the police. Before escaping, they pulled down the shutter from outside and fled the scene. Local residents later arrived and rescued the employees.

Barpeta Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
