Nagaon: In view of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the second phase of randomization of polling personnel to be deployed on election duty in Nagaon district was carried out today through a computerized process. The exercise was conducted in a transparent manner, with Election Commission-appointed observers present to oversee the proceedings (Polling Personnel Randomization).
Among those in attendance were General Observers Umashankar Bhargava, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2011 batch; Prasad I., an IAS officer of the 2012 batch; and Abu Tayeng, also a 2011-batch IAS officer and currently a Secretary in the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. They closely monitored the entire process.
Also present were Expenditure Observers appointed to keep strict watch over election spending—T. Ramalingam, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2008 batch; Unde Yogesh Pandurang, an IRS officer of the 2014 batch; and Ashok Charan, an IRS officer of the 2016 batch. In addition, Police Observer G. Shivakumar, a 2008-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer tasked with supervising security arrangements, attended the programme, lending further importance to the randomization exercise.
The process was conducted under the leadership of District Election Officer and District Commissioner Devashish Sharma. District Development Commissioner Devyani Choudhury, Kaliabor Co-District Commissioner Raj Baruah, and Raha Co-District Commissioner Dr. Ankita Bora, along with other Additional Deputy Commissioners, were also present during the randomization.
Following the exercise, the election observers held an informal meeting with representatives of various political parties. During the interaction, the District Commissioner appealed to all political party representatives to participate in the election in a spirit of fraternity and extend full cooperation in maintaining peace and order across the district.
