PM Modi to Launch Highway Airstrip and Major Infrastructure Projects During Assam Visit 2026 PM Modi to Launch Highway Airstrip, Bridge and Key Projects During Assam Visit on Feb 14

Guwahati: On Saturday, February 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Assam for a day-long itinerary packed with high-impact infrastructure launches ((PM Modi Assam Visit 2026)). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared these details during a Wednesday press conference, outlining a journey that begins at the Chabua air base in Dibrugarh . From there, the Prime Minister will travel to Moran to inaugurate the Advanced Emergency Landing Facility (AELF). This facility represents a significant strategic milestone as the first highway-based emergency landing ground in the Northeast, constructed on a 4.2 km section of National Highway-37 (or NH-2). Designed as dual-use infrastructure, the AELF is built to handle aircraft during combat or disaster scenarios, effectively bolstering security near the China border.

The scale of this project will be showcased immediately. Sarma stated that, “upon inauguration by the Prime Minister, 16 combat aircrafts of the Indian Air Force including Rafale, Sukhoi, Tejas etc will land and take off from the AEFL in Moran.” In a notable display of the facility’s functionality, the Prime Minister will then take off from this very highway strip on an aircraft to travel to Guwahati.

The momentum continues in Guwahati, where the Prime Minister is set to unveil an “architectural marvel”—the new bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River to connect Guwahati and North Guwahati. Speaking on the urban and educational developments, Sarma noted: “In Guwahati, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the bridge between the Guwahati and North Guwahati over Brahmaputra river, which itself is an architectural marvel, and inaugurate the temporary campus of the IIM Guwahati virtually from the Lachit Ghat in Guwahati.”

Furthermore, the day’s agenda includes the inauguration of a Hyper Scale Data Centre in Amingaon and the dedication of 100 EV and CNG buses to the citizens of Assam. To conclude the visit, the Prime Minister will head to the Veterinary field ground at Khanapara to address a gathering of lakhs of booth-level members at the BJP booth Sanmilani. As the Chief Minister detailed, “Following this inauguration, the Prime Minister would visit the Veterinary field ground at Khanapara to address the BJP booth Sanmilani where lakhs of booth level members of the BJP would arrive,” before departing for New Delhi that same evening.
