Nagaon: A crucial joint meeting of police and civil administration officials engaged in the Legislative Assembly elections was held on Saturday at the Nagaon District Library auditorium. The meeting was chaired by District Election Officer and District Commissioner Devasish Sharma, and attended by several senior observers appointed by the Election Commission (Nagaon Election Meeting). Among them were General Observers Umashankar Bhargava Prasad and Abu Tayeng, Expenditure Observers T. Ramalingam, Unde Yogesh Pandurang, and Ashok Charan, and Police Observer G. Shivakumar.
Addressing the civil zonal and sector officers as well as police zonal and sector officers present at the meeting, District Commissioner Devasish Sharma emphasized the importance of strong coordination between the administration and the police to ensure that the upcoming election process is conducted in a completely transparent, impartial, and smooth manner. He also called upon all officials to discharge their assigned responsibilities in their respective zones and sectors with utmost sincerity and dedication, while ensuring proper management of the law-and-order situation during the election period.
Similarly, District Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, in his address, elaborated on the various important duties and responsibilities of the police administration on polling day. He particularly stressed ensuring a secure environment at every polling station, maintaining strict surveillance over highly sensitive polling centers, and establishing robust security arrangements so that voters can freely and confidently assert their democratic rights without fear or intimidation. He further instructed police mobile teams to remain fully prepared and alert to promptly handle any untoward incidents on polling day and urged officers and personnel to remain extra cautious and responsible in ensuring the safe transportation of EVM machines from polling stations to strong rooms.
In the final phase of the meeting, the observers held direct interactions with the civil and police zonal and sector officers and provided detailed responses to various technical and practical queries raised by them. The observers also offered necessary guidance to address potential challenges that may arise in election management. This interaction helped resolve ambiguities and uncertainties among the officials and encouraged them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
