Gaurav Gogoi Ends Congress–AIUDF Alliance, Calls Party Workers True Brand AmbassadorsCongress Give Triple Talaq to AIUDF

Guwahati: The political atmosphere in Assam has intensified as Congress leaders move to define their identity ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, effectively cutting ties with former allies while addressing internal claims of leadership (Gaurav Gogoi AIUDF Triple Talaq).

The “Triple Talaq” to AIUDF:

In a significant move at Dabaka in Hojai district—traditionally considered a stronghold of Badruddin Ajmal—Assam Pradesh Congress President Gaurav Gogoi took a sharp aim at the AIUDF. Referencing earlier stances taken by Bhupen Borah, Gogoi metaphorically gave a “Triple Talaq” to the AIUDF, signaling a definitive end to any partnership between the two parties.

Who is the “Brand Ambassador of Congress”?:

The political discourse shifted after Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi recently claimed in Nagaon that he would be the “Star Campaigner” and “Brand Ambassador” for the Congress in 2026. This sparked varied reactions from the Congress top brass:

Gaurav Gogoi focused on the energy of the party’s grassroots:

“What bigger brand ambassador can there be than the crowd at Rajiv Bhawan? There is a festive, joyful atmosphere there that is being discussed everywhere. It is providing a great message to our workers. The Congress workers of Assam are the party’s primary brand ambassadors.”

Debabrata Saikia, Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, took a more inclusive approach:
”I appreciate his [Akhil Gogoi’s] desire. I invite everyone who opposes the BJP’s misrule and those who are not intimidated by their threats to campaign for Congress and become its brand ambassadors. If we want better days in Assam, everyone should campaign for the Congress party.”

Friction Over Seat-Sharing:

However, MP Rakibul Hussain was far more critical of Akhil Gogoi’s public demands for specific seats, such as the Dhing constituency.
”I don’t believe he would make such a statement, but if he has, I won’t respond to such frivolous remarks. Personally, I think it’s wrong for him to speak inconsistently like this. Discussing seat-sharing publicly in the media is inappropriate. I will inform the party about this. If he has discussed anything with the top leadership, I am unaware, but I object to this conduct,” Hussain said.
