Nagaon: In view of the recent situation arising from fuel-related rumours across various parts of the state, including Nagaon district, an important meeting was held yesterday evening in the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office (Fuel Rumours Nagaon). The meeting, chaired by District Commissioner Devashish Sharma, included petrol pump owners and managers from different parts of the district to review the prevailing situation in detail.
At the beginning of the meeting, the District Commissioner assessed the actual status of fuel availability in the district. Representatives of the oil depots informed the meeting that there is currently an adequate stock of petrol and diesel in Nagaon district. However, when asked about the unusual crowds and long queues at fuel depots, depot authorities explained that rumours of fuel shortages circulating through social media and other channels had created panic among the public, leading to a sudden surge in demand.
It was also observed that fuel demand had increased slightly due to various election-related political meetings and gatherings. As a result, although some depots temporarily ran out of fuel and caused inconvenience to customers, the situation was resolved quickly by depot management, authorities informed the Commissioner.
Considering the seriousness of the situation, the District Commissioner issued several important instructions to petrol pump owners and managers at the end of the meeting. He directed all petrol pumps to maintain adequate fuel stock according to their capacity and strictly prohibited the sale of petrol in open containers, plastic bottles, or drums.
The District Commissioner also issued a strong warning against illegal hoarding and black marketing of fuel, stating that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in such activities.
Additional District Commissioner Gopal Sharma, officials from the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, along with petrol pump owners and managers from across the district, were also present at the meeting.
