Guwahati: The Higher Secondary Final Examination has commenced across the state from today amid an atmosphere of heightened anticipation and activity (Assam HS Final Exam 2026). The crucial examination, which will continue from February 11 to March 16, has seen all necessary preparations completed by the Assam State School Education Board. On the first day, students begin this important academic milestone with the English examination scheduled in the afternoon session.
This year, a total of 3,30,744 students are appearing for the examination across 821 centres in the state. A gender-wise analysis shows that the number of female candidates is higher than that of male candidates. Out of the total examinees:
- Male students: 1,52,116
- Female students: 1,78,624
- Third gender: 2 The statistics of students across different streams reflect the wide scale of the examination. The Arts stream has the highest number of candidates, with 2,47,885 students appearing. This includes 1,02,648 male students, 1,45,216 female students, and 2 third-gender candidates.
In the Science stream, a total of 61,568 students are appearing, comprising 34,801 male students and 26,766 female students.
The Commerce stream has 19,806 candidates (13,782 male and 6,024 female students), while the Vocational stream has 1,505 candidates (887 male and 616 female students).
From a district perspective, Kamrup district has the highest number of candidates in the state, with 18,885 students appearing for the examination. In contrast, the river island district of Majuli has the lowest number, with 2,150 candidates participating in this year’s final examination.
Administrative Preparedness and Vigilance
To ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, the education board has set up a total of 48 evaluation zones across different parts of the state. To maintain transparency and discipline, district commissioners have already convened special meetings in their respective districts. Not only the examination centres, but invigilators and inspectors have also been provided with special training to prevent any irregularities in the process.
Additionally, district administrations have imposed certain strict restrictions around examination centres to maintain law and order during the examination period.
