Nagaon: In a strong push to ensure free and fair elections, the district administration of Nagaon has intensified its crackdown on illegal liquor, seizing a significant quantity during coordinated operations across multiple locations (Illegal Liquor Seizure in Nagaon).
Acting on strict directives ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026, joint teams of the Excise Department and election flying squads conducted widespread raids,recovering nearly 80 litres of illicit country liquor along with large quantities of raw materials used for its production.
A major operation in the Raha constituency’s Jajori Bogoriguri area led to the seizure of 10 litres of illegal liquor and 160 kg of brewing materials, all of which were destroyed on the spot. Similar drives across other constituencies yielded substantial recoveries:
Barhampur: 25 litres of liquor,
Dhing: 24 litres,
Batadrava: 15 litres and 180 kg materials,
Samaguri: 5 litres and 150 kg materials,
Rupahihat: 130 kg materials
Officials said the operations sends a clear message that strict action will be taken against any unlawful activities that could influence the electoral process.
District Information and Public Relations Officer Bikash Sharma stated that the intensified operations are being carried out under the instructions of District Commissioner Devashish Sharma. He emphasized that surveillance and enforcement measures will be further strengthened in the coming days.
With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct across the state, authorities have tightened security throughout the district. Flying squads and Static Surveillance Teams are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance, while checkpoints have been set up at key locations to conduct rigorous inspections of suspicious vehicles and goods.
The administration, along with the police, remains committed to ensuring that the electoral process in Nagaon is conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and unbiased manner.
