Safiqur Rahman, Nagaon: The district administration of Nagaon has completed extensive preparations for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026, with District Commissioner Devashish Sharma IAS outlining the arrangements during a press meet held at the DC Conference Hall on Monday (Assam Assembly Election 2026).

Addressing the media, the DC stated that the election process officially commenced with the issuance of the Gazette Notification on March 16. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for March 23, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 26. Polling across the district will be held on April 9, and counting of votes will take place on May 4. The entire election process will be completed by May 6.Providing an overview of the electorate, Sharma informed that a total of 1,551,530 voters are registered in the district. Among them, 778,208 are male voters, 773,270 female voters, and 52 belong to the third gender category. The voters are spread across seven Assembly constituencies—Dhing, Rupahihat, Kaliabor, Samaguri, Barhampur, Nagaon-Batadraba and Raha (SC).
To facilitate the voting process, the administration has established 1,868 polling stations across the district. Notably, 200 polling stations will be managed entirely by women officials, reflecting a strong emphasis on women’s participation in the electoral process.
The administration has also identified 159 polling stations as critical, based on previous voter turnout and other parameters, where additional security measures will be implemented.

For the distribution and receipt of polling materials, three venues have been designated: Dawson HS & MP School, Government Boys’ HS School, and Government Girls’ HS School in Nagaon town.

To maintain strict vigilance and ensure a peaceful election environment, 64 flying squads will be deployed throughout the district. Additionally, 28 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPF) will assist the local administration and police in maintaining law and order during the polling process. Around 8,000 polling and presiding officers will be engaged in conducting the election.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to a transparent and peaceful electoral process, DC Sharma said that all arrangements have been made to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights smoothly and safely.
