International Women’s Day Celebration Held at Nowgong Girls’ College, NagaonReport on the Celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 Nowgong Girls’ College

Nagaon: International Women’s Day 2026 was celebrated at Nowgong Girls’ College, Nagaon, Assam on 7th March 2026. The programme was organised by the Nowgong Girls’ College Students’ Union in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Studies. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and invited guests (International Women’s Day Celebration).

The programme was moderated by Krishnakhi Saikia, Union Secretary (Culture and Drama). It commenced with a melodious chorus presented by the students of the college, setting an inspiring tone for the event.

The welcome address was delivered by the Principal of the college, Dr. Kulen Chandra Das, who highlighted the importance of celebrating women’s achievements and empowering young women through education and awareness. He also spoke on the evils of the society like witch hunting which can be wiped off only if women are educated and empowered

The Chief Guest of the programme was Ashrawika Himadri Borah, Assistant Professor of History at Rupahi College. She delivered a highly engaging and insightful speech on the significance of women’s empowerment and the role of education in shaping a progressive society. She also spoke on struggles of women in the male- dominated world from time immemorial till today.

The programme also featured the inauguration of a Self Make-up Workshop for the students of the college by the alumna Mrs. Shantipriya Alampuriya. The workshop aimed to encourage self-confidence and self-care among students.

This was followed by an inspiring speech by Dr. Amiya Pator, Retired Associate Professor of Assamese, who shared her experiences and thoughts on the progress of women in society. Another motivating address was delivered by Marami Gayan, Vice Principal of the college, emphasizing the importance of women’s participation in all spheres of life.

The cultural segment of the programme included a graceful Sattriya dance performance by a student of the college and the staging of a one-act play “Nari Kontho Nirob Nohoe” both of which were highly appreciated by the audience.

The event also included the declaration of results and prize distribution of an Inter-College/University Painting Competition, where talented participants from various institutions were honoured for their creative works.

The programme concluded successfully in the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and participants from various colleges of Nagaon, making the celebration a memorable and meaningful occasion dedicated to honouring women and their contributions to society.
