Nagaon: In a vibrant celebration of democratic dialogue and youth participation, Nagaon University successfully hosted the District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament–2026 (VBYP-2026) on its campus today (Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026). The event witnessed overwhelming enthusiasm, with more than 350 students registering online through the My Bharat Portal and over 100 participants attending in person to engage in thoughtful and spirited deliberations.
The theme of this year’s Youth Parliament, “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,” set the stage for a profound and reflective exchange of ideas. Participants revisited the historic period of the Emergency (1975–77), critically examining its long-term implications for democratic institutions, civil liberties, and constitutional governance. The discussions showcased remarkable maturity, awareness, and a deep sense of democratic responsibility among the youth.
The session was presided over by Dr. Tosheswar Nath, former Vice Principal of Nowgong College (Autonomous) and former President of the Governing Body of Nowgong Girls’ College, Nagaon. His vast academic experience and insightful observations greatly enriched the proceedings.
The distinguished jury panel comprised Dr. Akshay Jyoti Sarma, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Rabindranath Tagore University; Dr. Mohini Mohan Deka, retired Vice Principal of Dimoria College; Mr. Saranga Ballav Goswami, Senior Advocate, Nagaon; and Mr. Lakhi Ranjan Kakati, Youth Leader. Their comprehensive evaluation and thoughtful feedback added depth, credibility, and academic rigour to the event.
The programme was skilfully anchored and coordinated by Ms. Jassi Kaur, Debate Secretary of the Nagaon University Students’ Union, who ensured the smooth conduct of the session with confidence and clarity.
Dr. Bhuban Ch. Chutia briefed the dignitaries and participants on the vision of Nagaon University and the objectives of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament initiative, highlighting its role in nurturing democratic awareness and leadership qualities among students.
In his welcome address, Dr. Hitesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Nagaon University, emphasized the significance of such academic engagements in shaping informed, responsible, and socially conscious citizens. He noted that participation in parliamentary simulations enhances critical thinking, communication skills, and overall personality development—essential attributes for future leaders of the nation.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bhuban Ch. Chutia, who expressed sincere gratitude to the chairperson, jury members, participants, and organizers for their wholehearted cooperation in making the event a resounding success.
The District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament–2026 at Nagaon University not only revived reflections on a crucial chapter of India’s democratic history but also reaffirmed the vital role of youth in safeguarding and strengthening the nation’s democratic fabric.
