GP Member Disqualified in Nagaon Over Forged HSLC CertificateGP Member Disqualified in Nagaon for Forged HSLC Certificate

Nagaon: In a landmark order underscoring the importance of integrity in grassroots democracy, the District Commissioner of Nagaon has disqualified Ajmal Khan, elected GP Member of Ward No. 1 of Dhingbori Chapori Gaon Panchayat under Juria Development Block, after it was proven that he submitted a forged HSLC certificate during the Panchayat Election 2025 (Forged HSLC Certificate).

The case began with a complaint filed by Saddam Hussain on December 8, 2025, alleging that Khan had misrepresented his educational qualifications. Following a detailed enquiry by the Nagaon Zilla Parishad, the Principal of Kaiomari HS School confirmed that the certificate submitted by Khan was not authentic.

During the hearing, Khan himself admitted that he had never passed the HSLC examination and had procured the certificate through an intermediary. The enquiry concluded that the document was indeed forged, constituting a violation of Section 111(2)(b) of the Assam Panchayat Act, 1994, and Rule 62(2) of the Assam Panchayat (Constitution) Rules, 1995.

The District Commissioner’s order, effective immediately, removes Khan from office and declares his seat vacant. The ruling also highlights that the act attracts criminal liability for forgery and false declaration.

Significance of the Order

This decisive action sends a strong message about accountability in local governance. It reinforces that honesty and transparency are non-negotiable values for elected representatives, even at the grassroots level.

Public Reaction

The order has sparked widespread discussion in Nagaon, with citizens praising the administration’s firm stand against electoral malpractice. Many view it as a reminder that Panchayat elections, the foundation of rural democracy, must remain free from fraud and deception.
