Guwahati: In the presence of Congress Screening Committee Chairperson Priyanka Gandhi, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today unveiled a booklet titled “People’s Chargesheet” at Rajiv Bhawan, the party’s state headquarters (Assam Congress Chargesheet 2026).
Over the past several months, senior leaders and workers of the Pradesh Congress had divided into multiple teams and traveled across different parts of Assam to collect grievances from the public against the ruling BJP government. Later, under the supervision of MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who heads the party’s Election Manifesto Committee, the “People’s Chargesheet” was prepared. The document lists 20 allegations against the BJP government.
On Thursday, in the presence of senior Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi and APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, along with party workers from the block level, MP Pradyut Bordoloi read out the charges after the unveiling ceremony.
The Allegations:
- The government led by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is allegedly running an illegal financial system through centralized syndicates based in Dispur.
- The Chief Minister, his close ministerial associates, and their family members have allegedly amassed widespread corruption and illegal assets.
- Despite warnings from the CAG, the government has allegedly continued to increase the state’s debt burden, weakening Assam’s financial system.
- The BJP government has allegedly failed to grant Scheduled Tribe status to six communities in Assam despite decade-long protests.
- Indigenous people have allegedly been evicted and their land handed over to capitalists.
- The government has allegedly betrayed the 1985 Assam Accord and failed to implement Clause 6, which safeguards Assamese identity.
- The NRC process has allegedly been stalled, creating fear and anxiety among the public. Additionally, the Rs.1,600 crore spent on NRC is termed Assam’s biggest political scam.
- The BJP government has allegedly failed to secure national disaster status for Assam’s floods and erosion.
- The government has allegedly failed to create new jobs, falsely projecting the filling of vacant posts as new employment, while turning Assam into a labor-supplying state.
- Public education has allegedly been weakened, depriving poor children of their right to education.
- The government has allegedly failed to provide basic healthcare, leading to an abnormal rise in deaths from preventable diseases.
- Tea garden workers have allegedly been deceived, as the promised daily wage of Rs.351, announced nearly a decade ago, has not been implemented.
- A bulldozer policy has allegedly been adopted in a biased manner against common people.
- The government has allegedly fostered a climate of fear and encounter-based “cowboy” governance.
- Crimes against women and children, including sexual assault and human trafficking, have allegedly increased during BJP rule, with the government failing to provide protection.
- Assam’s natural environment has allegedly been handed over to mining traders and forest mafias.
- The drug menace has allegedly been reduced to mere PR stunts, with partial seizures being publicized instead of solving the problem.
- The government has allegedly encouraged rat-hole coal mining, turning mineral-rich regions into “valleys of death.”
- There have allegedly been repeated attempts to curb freedom of speech and silence the media.
- Due to a lack of scientific outlook and administrative failure, Guwahati and other cities have allegedly deteriorated into deplorable conditions.
