Nagaon: In a significant step toward strengthening educational infrastructure, the foundation stone for the construction of five additional classrooms was laid yesterday at Nonoi College (Nonoi College New Classrooms). The initiative has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of the college fraternity, including Principal Dr. Mukut Moni Saikia, faculty members, and alumni, along with generous support from well-wishers and donors.

Inaugurating the foundation programme, Principal Dr. Saikia expressed deep gratitude to all individuals who contributed financially and physically to the noble cause. He acknowledged that such collective support reflects the community’s strong commitment to the advancement of higher education in the region.

The ceremonial event, anchored by Dr. Basanta Bora, Head of the Assamese Department, also featured the felicitation of noted social contributors and education supporters with phulam gamosa. Speakers highlighted the college’s growing reputation for academic excellence, cultural engagement, and intellectual development.

Addressing the gathering, faculty members noted that the construction of additional classrooms has become essential due to the steady rise in student enrolment. The expansion project, undertaken with public cooperation, is expected to significantly improve teaching facilities and learning conditions.

Gratitude was also extended to several distinguished donors and well-wishers who could not attend the event due to unavoidable circumstances. The college authorities and governing body conveyed their appreciation for the blessings and encouragement received from the community, which made the initiative possible.

Faculty members, student union representatives, staff, and local supporters actively participated in the foundation programme, ensuring its smooth completion.

Located in the greater Nagaon region, Nonoi College has long served students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds across areas such as Nonoi, Rangalu, Kathiatoli, Kandoli, Chapanala, Panikhaiti, and Kochupit—spreading the light of education among rural learners.

The college authorities have invited further public support and contributions from individuals willing to partner in its mission of educational upliftment and infrastructure development.
