Nagaon: The Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, was held yesterday at its Simluguri campus (KVK Nagaon Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting 2026). The meeting focused on reviewing the programmes implemented during the previous year, evaluating their outcomes, and formulating strategic plans for the coming years to strengthen agriculture and allied sectors for the district’s socio-economic advancement.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Bhabesh Chandra Deka, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Nagaon, stated that the committee meeting is organized annually to gather expert suggestions. He emphasized that the recommendations received would help shape future action plans and accelerate the district’s progress in agriculture and rural livelihoods.
Chairing the session, Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, reviewed the district’s performance in agriculture and allied fields and highlighted pathways for future growth. He noted that Nagaon has secured a leading position within the state in several production sectors, particularly fisheries.
Key deliberations were also led by Dr. Hiranya Kumar Bora, Chief Scientist of the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Shillongoni; Bhawani Kumar Nath, Joint Director of Agriculture; and District Agriculture Officer Nikhil Narayan Baruah. They presented detailed reviews of the 2025–26 activities and outlined proposed action plans for 2026–27.
The discussion session saw active participation from representatives of the agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, sericulture, irrigation, public health engineering, industry and commerce, social forestry, and social welfare departments. Scientists from multiple disciplines, progressive farmers, women entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and NABARD representatives also shared their insights and field experiences.
On the occasion, the annual publication titled “KVK Newsletter” was formally released, along with the launch of a new mobile application developed by KVK Nagaon to enhance outreach, technology dissemination, and farmer engagement.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to implement innovative, need-based programmes to further strengthen agricultural sustainability and improve farmers’ livelihoods across the district.
