Nagaon: A memorial arch dedicated to the martyrs of the historic Moamoria Rebellion was ceremonially unveiled at Moamoria Kukh in Senchowa, marking a significant tribute to one of Assam’s most notable uprisings during the closing phase of the Ahom era. The arch commemorates the 1785 martyrs of the rebellion, whose remains, as per historical accounts, were laid to rest in a water body near the tri-junction of Kumar Gaon and Elengi Satra. The memorial now stands near the Senchowa Gaon Panchayat office, symbolizing remembrance and historical pride (Moamoria Rebellion Memorial Arch).
The structure was formally inaugurated by Rupak Sharma, MLA of Nagaon–Batadraba constituency, in the presence of local leaders, cultural figures, and hundreds of devotees.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said the site would be developed into a historical tourism destination and emphasized the importance of preserving Assam’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The event featured traditional Gayan-Bayan performances, Satriya cultural presentations, and religious rituals, with large participation from Vaishnav devotees and local residents, creating a spiritually vibrant atmosphere.
The memorial arch now stands as a lasting symbol of sacrifice, resistance, and the rich historical legacy of Assam.
