Guwahati: With just two to three months left before the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam on Saturday (February 14) to attend several programmes (Emergency Landing Facility Moran). He participated in a booth-level convention of the BJP and its alliance partners at the Veterinary College playground in Guwahati and urged party workers to prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Expressing strong confidence, Prime Minister Modi said, “This time too, the BJP will achieve a massive victory in Assam. We must not only win the election but also win the hearts of the people of Assam.”
Modi Labels Congress as ‘Maoist Muslim League Congress’
During his speech, Prime Minister Modi referred to the Congress party as “Maoist Muslim League Congress” (MMC). He said, “The Muslim League divided the country. Today’s Congress has become ‘Maoist Muslim League Congress’ and is once again trying to divide the nation. The present Congress is MMC — Maoist Muslim League Congress. So, be cautious of Congress. The new generation may not know about Congress’s misrule. Inform them and keep them aware.”
Pride in Being a BJP Worker
Highlighting his pride in being a BJP worker, Modi said, “BJP workers work tirelessly; that is why the organization grows stronger. The greatest qualification and pride of my life is that Narendra Modi is a worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I salute all party workers in Assam. I also bow to Maa Kamakhya. With her blessings, Assam has given many great sons who have strengthened the nation’s security and culture. I pay tribute to Kabindra Purkayastha.”
He praised the party workers, saying, “You reached every household and connected with supporters. That strengthened the booths and enabled the BJP to form the government in Assam.”
Northeast Again Described as ‘Ashtalakshmi’
Reiterating his earlier stance, Prime Minister Modi once again described the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi.” He said, “The Congress neglected the Northeast; we have served it. The Northeast is our Ashtalakshmi. Through the Budget, we will make the region economically self-reliant. Compared to what Congress gave Assam, the BJP government has provided five times more funds. In the last 11 years, Assam has received ₹5.5 lakh crore from the central government for development. Can the Congress, which failed to provide funds for Assam’s growth, bring development? In the coming days, river tourism on the Brahmaputra will be expanded.”
Mention of Aircraft Landing on National Highway in Moran
Referring to the Indian Air Force aircraft landing on the National Highway in Moran, Modi said, “During Congress rule, roads were in a dilapidated state. There was no certainty about reaching destinations on time. Today, we have such highways where not only vehicles run but even aircraft can land. This is a matter of pride. Such development has been possible because of the BJP government formed with public support.”
Allegations of Defence Procurement Scams Under Congress
Prime Minister Modi alleged that scams occurred in defence procurement during the Congress regime. He said, “Today’s India is not only vigilant at its borders but can also enter the enemy’s territory and respond. The world saw our response to the Pulwama attack.” Referring to Operation ‘Sindoor,’ he said India’s strength has been demonstrated. He questioned whether Congress had the courage to take such bold decisions.
He further said, “In its 70 years in power, Congress built only three bridges over the Brahmaputra. In ten years, the BJP built five. Congress gave Assam problems; the BJP provided solutions. With the semiconductor project, Assam will gain global recognition.”
2026 Election a Matter of Life and Death: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The 2026 election is a matter of life and death for us. The BJP must win because Assam’s development is progressing rapidly. We cannot allow Assam to stop. Our eviction drives cannot stop. Our decisions cannot stop. Assam’s development cannot stop. Day and night we will work to give Narendra Modi a third term as Prime Minister.”
He added, “We will take Mother Assam to the global stage. The relentless progress of the last 10 years has ushered Assam into a new era. Assam no longer needs to bow before anyone. To those who look at Assam with hostility, we say — the BJP government is coming, and we will remove that hostility through development.”
Sarbananda Sonowal Criticizes Congress
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, addressing the gathering attended by around 80,000 BJP workers, criticized Congress. He said, “Assam and the Northeast were once known as disturbed regions. During Congress rule, people were afraid to visit. Congress created conflict among communities through divisive politics and pushed Assam’s identity, land, language, literature, and culture into insecurity.”
He further alleged that Congress prioritized illegal immigrants since its inception and imposed the IMDT Act on October 20, 1983, to protect them. He said the objective was to grant citizenship and land to illegal immigrants. He added that the Supreme Court later struck down the IMDT Act as unconstitutional, and under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, all citizens in Assam now feel secure.
Prime Minister Lands at Northeast’s First Emergency Landing Facility in Moran
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Moran, Dibrugarh district. He arrived in a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, landing on a strengthened stretch of National Highway 37.
The Emergency Landing Facility has been built at a cost of approximately ₹100 crore. The 4.2-kilometre stretch is designed as a runway capable of handling fighter jets up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes. It will assist in rescue and relief operations during emergencies. After landing, the Prime Minister spent around 40 minutes witnessing aerial manoeuvres by fighter jets such as Tejas and Sukhoi.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated several key infrastructure projects in Guwahati, including the Guwahati–North Guwahati Kumar Bhaskar Varma Bridge, 100 electric buses, and the temporary campus of IIM Guwahati.
