Nagaon : The 13th Foundation Day of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani was celebrated with great enthusiasm and literary fervour today under the initiative of the Nagaon District Committee at Dronacharya Senior Secondary School (Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani Foundation Day).

The day-long programme began in the morning with the ceremonial hoisting of the Sanmilani flag by District Committee President Dr. Risheswar Thengal Saikia, formally inaugurating the celebrations. This was followed by a solemn tribute ceremony, inaugurated by the Principal of Dronacharya Senior Secondary School, Chandrakanta Bora, where homage was paid to departed literary figures.

A public meeting was held later in the day under the chairmanship of District President Dr. Risheswar Thengal Saikia. The objective of the meeting was elaborated by General Secretary Nijara Saikia Hazarika, who highlighted the role of the organisation in promoting Assamese language, literature, and culture at the grassroots level.

One of the highlights of the event was the formal release of the Sanmilani’s monthly literary magazine ‘Mahili’, unveiled by eminent physician Dr. Krishna Bora. In his inaugural address, Dr. Bora remarked that although the magazine may be small in size, its literary significance remains immense. He noted that such publications create a meaningful environment for literary practice and continuous intellectual engagement, and praised the Nagaon District Sanmilani for sustaining this initiative.

On the occasion, more than twenty journalists from Nagaon were felicitated by the Sanmilani in recognition of their contributions to society and literature. They were honoured with phulam gamosas, certificates of appreciation, and saplings, symbolizing respect and gratitude.
Adding vibrant colour to the celebration, over fifteen poets recited their poems, enriching the programme with lyrical expression and creative energy.
The Foundation Day celebration concluded on a high literary note, reflecting the enduring commitment of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani to nurturing Assamese literature, encouraging writers, and strengthening cultural unity in the region.
