Jorhat: A horrifying incident that took place in the Teok area of Jorhat has now sparked widespread discussion across the state (Teok Wedding Death Threat). An unidentified miscreant has sent a death threat to a family that was preparing for a wedding. Not only a letter, but a live bullet was also sent along with the threat, leaving the bride’s family deeply shaken.
What is the background of the incident?
A marriage had been fixed between a young woman from Bam Guwal village in Teok and a young man from the Lahdoigarh area. In accordance with government regulations, their marriage registration had already been completed. However, at this moment of happiness, an anonymous letter cast a shadow of fear over the family. A live bullet of a 9mm pistol and a threatening letter were recovered from the courtyard of the young woman’s residence.
According to the contents of the letter:
- The writer claims to have no personal enmity with the young woman.
- However, the writer states that he has a dispute with the young man to whom the woman is engaged.
- The letter threatens that if the marriage takes place, the young man will be killed either on the wedding day or sometime afterward.
- Although the letter states that there is no intention to destroy the young woman’s life, the family has been warned to cancel the marriage to avoid future danger.
Family approaches the police
Despite the anonymous writer warning the family not to approach the police, the family sought help from the Teok Police after understanding the seriousness of the situation. Meanwhile, the young man who received the death threat has also filed an FIR at the police station.
The incident of sending a live pistol bullet in connection with a wedding ceremony has shocked the police as well.
At present, Teok Police have begun an investigation into the entire incident. Police operations are ongoing to identify those involved behind the act and to determine the reason why the young man was targeted.
