Juria Sets an Example of Communal Harmony Beyond Religious DividesA Unique Example of Communal Harmony in Juria Amid Hindu–Muslim Politics

Nagaon: Hindu–Muslim politics has, in many ways, troubled ordinary people. Even as politics continues to divide society in numerous ways, many still seem to uphold harmony in the spirit often reflected in the ideals of Zubeen Garg. In Assam, this bond of harmony refuses to be broken (Communal Harmony in Juria).

While divisive politics and growing communal polarisation between Hindus and Muslims frequently dominate headlines, a positive, humane, and heart-warming story of communal harmony has emerged from the Juria area of Nagaon district. Juria has once again proven that the true strength of Assamese society lies in harmony, compassion, and coexistence.

The sudden death of a young man named Surjya Bora from Dagaon village in Juria plunged the entire village into mourning. As the youth was alone and lacked close family members, performing his last rites became a major challenge. However, in this moment of grief, both Hindu and Muslim members of the village came forward in solidarity.

Along with the villagers, members of the local Muslim community took complete responsibility for Surjya Bora’s cremation. Not only did they remain present, but they also stayed at the cremation ground till late night, assisting in carrying out all the necessary funeral rites. Their selfless support in such a sorrowful environment brought tears to the eyes of many.

By setting aside religious, social, and political divisions and standing beside a fellow human being in distress, Dagaon village has emerged as a unique example of humanity. Local residents stated that standing together during times of sorrow and crisis is a long-standing Assamese tradition, and Juria has once again brought that tradition to life. “We are moving forward on the path shown by Zubeen Garg,” they said.

This incident clearly proves that despite political divisions, harmony and empathy continue to live on in the hearts of ordinary people. The event in Juria sends a powerful message to society—that humanity stands above all religions, and unity remains the greatest strength of any community.
