Nagaon: In a swift and targeted operation, the Nagaon police today apprehended a suspected drug peddler from the Tubuki Grant area under Rangaloo Police Point (PP), raising serious concerns about the growing reach of narcotics in the region (Drug Peddler Arrested with Heroin). Acting on specific information received around 2:00 PM, a police team conducted a prompt raid near Rangaloo High School, a location that should symbolize learning and hope, not the shadows of addiction. During the operation, one individual, identified as Rofikul Islam, son of late Suraj Ali and a resident of Uriagrant Tubuki under Jumurmur Post Office and Nagaon Sadar Police Station, was detained on suspicion of involvement in the illegal sale of narcotic substances.
Upon conducting a personal search, the police recovered four plastic vials containing suspected heroin from the accused. The total weight of the seized substance was 5.33 grams including the vials, with a net weight of 1.62 grams of suspected heroin. The seizure was carried out in the presence of independent witnesses, strictly adhering to legal procedures. The recovered items were duly documented and uploaded to the E-Shayksha App as part of the official process. Following the seizure, the accused along with the contraband was brought to the police point for further necessary legal action.
This incident, occurring in close proximity to an educational institution, is a stark reminder of the insidious spread of narcotic drugs into the very heart of our communities. Heroin, a highly addictive and destructive substance, has been silently devastating the lives of countless youths across Assam. Its presence near a school is not just a legal violation—it is a moral affront to the values of education, safety, and the sanctity of childhood. The youth, often unaware of the irreversible consequences, are lured into the trap of addiction through peer pressure, unemployment, or the false allure of escape. What begins as experimentation can quickly spiral into dependency, leading to the erosion of health, dignity, and future prospects.
The Nagaon police’s timely action deserves commendation, but it also highlights the urgent need for community vigilance and collective responsibility. The fight against drugs cannot be won by law enforcement alone. Parents, educators, civil society, and young people themselves must come together to raise awareness, foster resilience, and create a culture where saying no to drugs is not just a choice but a shared commitment. Every vial seized is a life potentially saved. Every peddler caught is a step toward reclaiming our streets and safeguarding our future.
Let this incident serve as a wake-up call for all of us. The future of our society lies in the hands of our youth, and we must act now to protect them from the grip of addiction. A drug-free Nagaon is not just a dream—it is a duty we all share.
