Indore: Indian captain Rohit Sharma etched his name into the record books by becoming the sixth Indian cricketer to play 100 One Day Internationals on home soil. The landmark came during the third and final ODI against New Zealand at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday.
With this appearance, Rohit joined an elite group featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Yuvraj Singh, who are among the most-capped Indian players in ODIs played at home.
However, the milestone match did not go well for the experienced opener. Chasing a stiff target of 338 runs, Rohit managed just 11 runs off 13 deliveries, striking two boundaries before being dismissed early.
The New Zealand ODI series proved disappointing for Rohit Sharma with the bat. Across three innings, he accumulated 61 runs at an average of 20.33, failing to score a half-century in the series.
Earlier, New Zealand put up a formidable total of 337/8 in 50 overs after being sent in to bat. Daryl Mitchell continued his fine form, smashing his second consecutive century of the series with a brilliant 137 off 131 balls, laced with 15 fours and a six.
Glenn Phillips provided excellent support, scoring a commanding 106 off 88 deliveries, including nine fours and three sixes. Captain Michael Bracewell added valuable runs at the death, remaining unbeaten on 28 from 18 balls.
For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were the standout bowlers, claiming three wickets each.
The three-match ODI series now stands level at 1–1, with India winning the opening game and New Zealand taking the second encounter.
Brief Scores:
New Zealand 337/8 in 50 overs (Daryl Mitchell 137, Glenn Phillips 106; Arshdeep Singh 3/63, Harshit Rana 3/84) vs India.
